INNOVATION:
A versatile, MR safe robotic platform to assist physicians in treating patients with cardiovascular diseases
Mohamed Abdelaziz is a postdoctoral research associate at the Hamlyn Centre for Robotic Surgery in the Imperial College London, UK. He earned his PhD at the Hamlyn Centre, his master’s at the University of Twente, the Netherlands, and his bachelor’s in mechatronics engineering from the German University in Cairo, Egypt. His current research involves the development of a haptic device physicians use remotely to perform various procedures without the use of x-ray’s as guidance, avoiding exposure to dangerous ionizing radiation. More importantly, the haptic device emulates the conventional manual instrument manipulation, allowing physicians to control the instruments in a familiar and intuitive manner.
