Alan Shihadeh
Dean of the Maroun Semaan Faculty of Engineering and Architecture and Professor of Mechanical Engineering, American University of Beirut
Dr. Alan Shihadeh is Dean of the Maroun Semaan Faculty of Engineering and Architecture and Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the AUB. He earned his doctorate in Mechanical Engineering at MIT in 1998 and taught at Birzeit University in Palestine prior to joining AUB in 2000. Dr. Shihadeh is an expert on the chemistry, physics, and exposure science of particle pollutants. He and his team have invented a number of technologies that are used in research labs around the world to study tobacco smoke and its health effects. He serves as an advisor to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, a scientific expert to the World Health Organization, and a Project Director at the Center for the Study of Tobacco Products at Virginia Commonwealth University. He is a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of the journal Chemical Research in Toxicology of the American Chemical Society.
